trauma. A decreased neutrophil count may signal a viral infection,
bone marrow disorders, autoimmune diseases, or medication side
effects.
When to run this test:
● To evaluate the body's immune response.
● To determine the cause of an abnormal WBC count, such as
infections and inflammation.
Range
% of total WBC count
Conventional

Bands
Bands are young, non-segmented neutrophils, or metamyelocytes,
which are typically present in small numbers in the blood.
However, their numbers can rise during an acute infection, even if
the total WBC count remains unchanged, making it a helpful
indicator of infection.
The presence of band cells during a bacterial infection can often
indicate a positive prognosis, showing that the body is actively
responding to and fighting the infection.
When to run this test:
● To determine the timing or severity of an infection.
