This test measures folate levels in the blood to see if someone has
a folate deficiency.
Folate can also be measured inside red blood cells (RBC folate),
which gives a better picture of long-term levels.
Folate is a key B-vitamin that helps with making red blood cells,
building DNA, and supporting brain and nerve development.
Low folate can lead to megaloblastic anemia, where red blood
cells become too large and don’t work properly, making it harder
to carry oxygen.
It can also lead to high homocysteine levels, which are linked to a
higher risk of heart problems.
When to run this test:
● To check health during pregnancy
● When there are elevated levels of homocysteine
