Vitamin B12
The Vitamin B12 test measures the level of vitamin B12 in the blood.
Vitamin B12, Cobalamin, is a water-soluble vitamin crucial for red
blood cell formation, neurological function, methylation, and DNA
synthesis. This test is used to diagnose vitamin B12 deficiencies or
excesses and to monitor the effectiveness of treatment.
Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to anemia; a condition you
learned about earlier in the module.
When to run this test:
● When testing for megaloblastic or pernicious anemia
● To check overall health and well-being
● When an individual has certain genetic factors like MTHFR
