Chromium
Whole blood chromium tests measure chromium in both the blood
cells and fluid, giving a better picture of long-term levels. Serum
chromium tests only the fluid part of the blood and can change
based on recent diet or supplements.
Whole blood is more accurate for spotting long-term deficiencies,
while serum is easier to use for quick checks4but both need to be
looked at in context with symptoms and other health markers.
When to use this test:
● Women who have PCOS
● Blood sugar instability despite diet or medication
● Weight challenges, particularly when accompanied by
cravings or poor insulin sensitivity
● If there's potential exposure to toxic hexavalent chromium
(e.g., in manufacturing or welding), test urine levels for
toxicity, not nutritional status.
