The liver is responsible for over 500 essential functions, and one of
its most important jobs is detoxification4filtering and breaking
down substances from the blood to protect the body and support
overall health. Everything absorbed from the digestive tract passes
through the liver first, where toxins, drugs, and waste products are
processed before they reach the rest of the body.
Detoxification happens in two main phases.
Phase I:
First, the liver uses a group of specialized enzymes to begin
breaking down harmful substances. This process can sometimes
turn toxins into more reactive forms, but it also prepares them for
the next step.
