Albumin / Globulin Ratio
The albumin/globulin (A/G) ratio represents the relationship
between albumin and globulin levels. However, due to the wide
variability in individual protein fractions, it should be viewed only
as a general reference. Its clinical usefulness is limited and should
always be interpreted in the context of separate albumin and
globulin values.
The globulin component is typically more clinically significant, as a
decreased A/G ratio may indicate elevated globulin levels, which
can be linked to chronic inflammation, infection, autoimmune
conditions, cancer, or other systemic diseases. In contrast, an
increased A/G ratio is generally not considered clinically
meaningful.
