Uric Acid
Uric acid is the end product of purine metabolism, formed during
the breakdown of nucleic acids. About two-thirds is excreted by
the kidneys, making it an indirect marker of kidney function, while
the rest is eliminated through the stool.
Conventionally elevated uric acid levels are associated with gout,
renal failure, and leukemia. However, from a functional lens, uric
acid is a valuable marker for inflammation and metabolic
imbalances.
Low levels may suggest nutrient deficiencies in B12, folate, or
copper.
When to run this test:
● To support the diagnosis of inflammatory or circulatory
disorders
● To screen for early signs of potential heart disease
● As a marker of oxidative stress activity
Note: Levels can fluctuate due to stress, obesity, and seasonal
changes, so serial testing provides the most reliable insight.
