calcium metabolism, making targeted correction more effective
than supplementation alone.
When to run this test:
● To evaluate parathyroid gland function
● To assess overall digestive efficiency
Total Serum Calcium:
Range
Units
Conventional
8.5 / 10.8 mg/dL
Optimal / Functional
9.2 - 10 mg/dL
Alarm
< 7 or > 12 mg/dL
Ionized Calcium:
Range
Units
Conventional / Functional
4.6 - 5.3 mg/dL
Note: Most standard lab tests measure total serum calcium,
including bound and unbound forms, but not ionized calcium
readings. For more accurate insight, ionized calcium readings can
be requested.
Because low albumin can falsely lower total calcium levels,
albumin should always be tested alongside calcium. For more
accurate insight, ionized calcium can be ordered separately.
GI Markers & Parasitology
