Includes strains that produce Shiga toxins; often associated with
severe disease.
Escherichia coli O157
A specific EHEC serotype known for causing hemorrhagic colitis
and HUS.
Enteroinvasive E. coli (EIEC) / Shigella spp.
These pathogens invade intestinal cells; genetically similar and
often reported together.
Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC) 3 LT/ST
Produces heat-labile (LT) and/or heat-stable (ST) toxins; a common
cause of traveler’s diarrhea.
Shiga Toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) 3 stx1 and stx2
May be detected individually or alongside O157; linked to bloody
diarrhea and kidney complications.
Salmonella spp.
Frequently found in contaminated eggs, poultry, and produce;
can lead to systemic illness.
