Parasitic Pathogens
These protozoan parasites can cause both acute and chronic
gastrointestinal symptoms:
Cryptosporidium spp.
Waterborne parasite; may cause severe diarrhea, especially in
immunocompromised individuals.
Entamoeba histolytica
Can invade the intestinal wall and cause dysentery or liver
abscess.
Giardia spp. (G. lamblia / G. intestinalis)
