COMPENDIUM ON FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE - Flipbook - Page 347
Dr. Green devised a plan that included a diet low in sugar and
simple carbohydrates high in vitamin C and healthy fats like
omega smoothies by designs for health and increased physical
activity.
Three months later, she received an amazing report from her
mom. She goes to sleep on time and stays asleep until morning.
She verbalizes words she had not previously done, even with
speech therapy, playing appropriately with toys, and asking for
different foods.
Case Study by Lynn Dudley, PAC
Lynn Dudley, PAC had a patient, a 43-year-old female, who
presented with fatigue, joint pain, brain fog, frequent abdomen
pain, bloating, and loose stools. She was diagnosed with irritable
bowel syndrome. She was frustrated with the lack of effective
solutions to help her symptoms and wanted to find the root cause.
Dudley did comprehensive functional health testing and found
low vitamin D, elevated C- reactive protein, elevated uric acid,
and an omega index of 3.8. The patient had food sensitivities to
casein, almonds, and eggs. Moreover, she had stool microbiome
testing that showed low keystone bacteria, high levels of
pseudomonas, and others.
Dudley advised her to remove casein, almonds, and eggs from
her diet for three months and to start supplements, including
vitamin D3 and fish oil, for the deficiencies. For her gut health, she
started digestive enzymes with meals and probiotics.
After two months, the patient's Vit D3 went up to 83.7 and uric
acid went down. In addition, the patient’s CRP and most of her IBS
symptoms were resolved.
