Case Study by Dr. Tarah David, PharmD, MBA
Dr. Tarah David, PharmD, MBA, had a 38-year-old male patient
coming to their practice complaining about not losing those last
20 pounds. He was active and fit with no significant medical
history except for alcoholism and was coming to me 2000 days
sober; holding onto weight is a sign of disease in their body
underlining a cause, so she began to piece together the puzzle.
The patient had a diet full of whole foods and healthy meals and
ate the rainbow; however, he dreamed about sweet foods and
gorged himself like nobody was watching.
The patient wanted to know more about what was going inside his
gut, so he ordered a G.I. map. The patient had Candida
overgrowth and the typical symptoms like chronic diarrhea, skin
rash, sweet tooth, oral thrush, and dandruff.
His candida infection was making him crave foods that thrive on
sugar. She had him starve it out. They removed sugars and started
on probiotics and antimicrobial herbs.
After 21 days on the diet, he slowly began to add back foods
removed to make sure there were no food sensitivities. In 90 days
the patient had lost 15 pounds and stopped dreaming about
sweet foods.
