unexplained weight loss. Her primary care physician diagnosed
her with muscle pain and prescribed high doses of NSAIDs and
muscle relaxants; however, the treatment provided no relief, and
her symptoms persisted.
She referred to cardiology for evaluation. The results were normal.
The patient brought in recent bloodwork, including a CBC and
CMP. Her lab results revealed iron deficiency, anemia, low protein
levels, signs of hypochlorhydria, and underlying gastrointestinal
issues. We ordered a GI-MAP test, revealing hypochlorhydria,
impaired mucosal lining, compromise, immune function, and
symptomatic inflammation.
We develop a comprehensive plan to repair the gut lining and
restore immune function. Within two months of beginning the
treatment plan, the patient reported complete resolution of her
digestion and upper back pain.
Over the next six months, she experienced significant
improvement in her overall symptoms. This case highlights the
importance of interpreting lab markers through an optimal lens
and considering underlying gastrointestinal issues when faced with
chronic, unexplained symptoms.
Case Study by Kelly Jefferson, FMACC
The client was a 65-year-old woman who presented with
significant digestive issues, including chronic constipation,
episodes of explosive bowel movements, and bloating after

distress. During the initial intake, there is evidence that the client
