Clinical Significance of Array 3X
The expanded testing provided by Array 3X offers several clinical
advantages over conventional celiac testing:
Increased Sensitivity for Gluten-Related Disorders
Research has shown that individuals can react to multiple wheat
proteins and peptides while remaining negative for the limited
markers assessed in standard celiac panels [12]. By testing a
broader spectrum of antigens, Array 3X can identify immune
reactions in patients who would be missed by conventional testing
[13].
Identification of Neurological and Extraintestinal Manifestations
Antibodies against specific transglutaminase isozymes (TG3, TG6)
and gluteomorphin can help identify patients whose primary
manifestations of gluten sensitivity affect the skin, nervous system,
or other extraintestinal sites rather than producing classic
gastrointestinal symptoms [14]. A study by Hadjivassiliou et al.
found that anti-TG6 antibodies were present in patients with gluten
ataxia even in the absence of enteropathy or conventional celiac
markers [15].
Early Detection of Developing Gluten Sensitivity
Array 3X can identify immune reactions in their early stages,
before extensive tissue damage has occurred. This early detection
opportunity allows for timely intervention that may prevent
progression to more severe autoimmune manifestations [16].
Clinical Connections to Symptomatology
Different patterns of antibodies on Array 3X may correlate with
different symptom presentations:
● Elevated WGA antibodies: Often associated with increased
intestinal permeability and systemic inflammation [17]
