The Array 12 is particularly valuable when the clinical question
centers on how pathogens may be triggering autoimmune
reactions, rather than simply identifying the presence of specific
pathogens [23].
Pretest Protocol and Specimen Requirements
To ensure accurate results, patients should follow specific
guidelines before undergoing the Array 12 test [24]:
Medication Considerations
● Immunosuppressive medications (e.g., prednisone,
methotrexate) may reduce antibody production and lead to
false negatives. Ideally, testing should be performed before
starting these medications or after an appropriate washout
period if medically feasible.
● Antibiotics may temporarily reduce antibody levels to certain
bacterial pathogens.
● Antiviral medications may affect viral antibody levels.
Note: Patients should never discontinue prescribed medications
without consulting their healthcare provider.
Specimen Collection Requirements
● Fasting is not required but recommended for 4-6 hours before
blood draw.
● Blood should be collected in the morning (before 10 AM)
when possible.
● The patient should be well-hydrated but avoid excessive
water intake immediately before the test.
● Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours before collection.
